Season 2018 – 2019

Golden Jubilee

December 2018 marked the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of the Bearsden Choir. To celebrate this Golden Jubilee, the choir had a programme of special events, the highlights of which were two gala concerts.

The first concert in the Jubilee season was a performance of Handel’s Messiah. This was the very first piece performed by the Choir back in December 1968 and it seemed fitting to mark this very special anniversary with a golden jubilee performance.

Bach B Minor Mass

The fiftieth anniversary season ended in May 2019 with a second gala concert when the Choir  performed Bach’s B Minor Mass. Glasgow City Halls was once again the venue.

Bearsden Choir is now acknowledged as one of the most gifted choirs in Scotland, performing a wide ranging repertoire and that to the very highest standards. The choir represents Scotland at the highest level of music making.

One of the distinctive features of Bearsden Choir is their passionate commitment to young people and to their choral education. In October 2016, the choir was joined by 280 pupils from 11 schools, 4 professional soloists and the orchestra of The RCS, under the baton of Andrew Nunn to sing the Haydn Nelson Mass in the City Halls. This was an experience that these students would not have enjoyed had it not been for the foresight and hard work of all at Bearsden Choir and we hope that this event may have sparked an enduring interest in choral singing.

However, the costs associated with the above event, indeed with any concert production are huge and hence our appeal to you.

During our 50th Anniversary year we launched a 50th Anniversary Appeal. This is an appeal that seeks to secure private sponsorship and donations to allow the choir to continue making a mark on Scotland’s musical landscape for another fifty years and to continue to inspire the next generation of choral singers in Scotland.

If you think you might be interested in being associated with and contributing to our 50th Anniversary Appeal, or if you would like to join the choir, please get in touch with the Chairman, John Wotton, either by emailing him direct or through the choir website.
